Two charities will soon be ‘raising a glass’ to drinkers as pints make pounds at the inaugural Moseley & Kings Heath Beer Festival take place early February.

Maddie’s Fighting Fund, in aid of Dickens Heath youngster Maddie Hems, and All Saints Youth Project have been nominated as beneficiaries for the two-day festival being held at Kings Heath Cricket Club on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8. The festival is the latest initiative from Moseley Round Table, which will be laying on more than 20-plus beers and ciders – including one brewed by the group’s current chairman James Gregory.

The doors will open at 4pm on Friday with entertainment from Kings Heath-based ukulele band Carlo Mahalo and the G Strings. On Saturday the will action begin at noon and includes live Six Nations rugby during the day involving all four home nations. A charity casino will also be running on both nights with the biggest winner over the two days in with a chance of winning a week in Morocco.

The event has been supported by Kings Heath Business Association and its members, a number of whom have sponsored a barrel to help the fundraising.

Gregory said: “As a keen brewer I have wanted to stage a beer festival for a while, which is also a great addition to Moseley Round Table’s packed calendar.

“It’s also another brilliant community event, which will raise funds for two very local causes.

“We’re grateful to the club for hosting us and also the support of our various sponsors.”

Non-beer and cider drinkers will be catered for by the venue, which will also be doing a themed menu.

Entry to the beer festival is £10 which includes a souvenir glass and £6-worth of beer tokens. A limited number of tickets are available from Johnstans Butchers, Kings Heath High Street, or pay on the day.
