Police make new appeal over mystery death of Phillip Floyd, saying car may have 'unknowingly struck' victim

Police investigating the mystery of a man’s death in a Moseley street last monthbelieve he may have been involved in a collision with a vehicle.

Phillip Floyd was found collapsed on Forest Road on Tuesday 28 January.

He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries where he died a short time later.

A week after Mr Floyd’s death, detectives investigating the circumstances of how he suffered his injuries staged an anniversary appeal at the scene.

Officers revealed they were trying to trace the occupants of two cars, along with three pedestrians, who were seen on CCTV travelling along Forest Road at around the time that the 50-year-old was found collapsed in the street.

The officers' latest line of inquiry is that a car may have unknowingly struck Mr Floyd on Forest Road.

Det Supt Mark Payne, the strategic crime manager in Force CID, said: "I would like to appeal directly to the drivers of the two cars and the man seen running along Forest Road to call me or one of my team.

"What I would say is that the driver of the car may not have known they had hit a person and I would strongly urge them to come forward so we can get their side of the story.

"They may hold vital information that could help us unravel the mystery of how Mr Floyd died.

"We are really disappointed with the very small amount of information that we received as a result of the earlier appeal.

"Enquiries are still ongoing and we are attempting to get the CCTV enhanced which may aid our continuing investigations."

Anyone with information should call Force CID in Birmingham by dialling 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
