This week is British Pie Week and in Birmingham we are lucky enough to have a lot of venues offering tasty pastry dishes with a variety of fillings.

To celebrate, our food critic Paul Fulford has put together a list of his favourites.

Here's his guide to the city's top pie places and some of your suggestions too.

THE VILLAGE: Alcester Road, Moseley

Any pub that serves a home-made haggis, neeps and tatty pie is all right by me. For the wimpish, there are more traditional options such as beef and stilton and chicken as asparagus.

MPW’S STEAKHOUSE, BAR & GRILL: The Cube, Birmingham city centre

The Wheeler’s of St James’s fish pie is comfort food of the highest order. Or you could opt for shepherd’s pie or steak and ale.

URBAN PIE: Bullring Stairway, Birmingham city centre

Hard to beat for decent quality and good value pies, especially if you need re-fuelling during a shopping trip.

THE BLACK EAGLE: Factory Road, Hockley

A friendly backstreet boozer offering home-made steak pie with chips and the option of peas or baked beans. Got to be baked beans, hasn’t it?

THE OLD JOINT STOCK: Temple Row West, Birmingham city centre

A former banking hall that’s now a buzzy pub offering a range of satisfying pies.
