Carters of Moseley has been voted restaurant of the year by its diners.

The independent eatery in St Mary’s Row, Wake Green Road, has beaten competition from other restaurants across the Midlands to the title in this year’s Good Food Guide awards.

More than 30,000 members of the public voted for their favourite restaurants, pubs and cafes to elect 10 regional winners across regions of England, Wales and Scotland.

The restaurant is the baby of couple Brad Carter, 31, and Holly Jackson, 29, who launched it in November 2010.

Holly said: “As a little local restaurant, this feels like an amazing achievement and it’s great recognition.

“Hopefully it gives people the confidence to come and try us over more established restaurants with bigger names.

“It’s also great for Moseley and for Birmingham.”

Last year’s Midlands restaurant of the year was also won by a Birmingham business, being snapped up by Turners of Harborne.

The restaurant has retained its place in the Good Food Guide since it first opened and is one of a select group in Birmingham to be listed in the Michelin Guide.

Holly said: “People really do take notice of the Good Food Guide and the Michelin Guide.

“A lot of people buy the book and swear by it, so this is really good news for us.

“We want to keep pushing, to keep pleasing everyone and keep listening to our customers.”

Elizabeth Carter, consultant editor of The Good Food Guide, added: “I’m sure many locals would like to keep this place under the radar, but sorry folks, the secret is out – Brad Carter can deliver some seriously good food.

“From the second you walk through the door you can see why this smart-casual restaurant is so popular. It’s a deserving winner.”

Brad and Holly will attend an awards ceremony in September to find out which of the 10 regional finalists will take the national crown.
