Two premier Edgbaston based estate agents have merged to combine and enhance their strength and services for marketing and selling homes around Edgbaston, Harborne, Moseley and Selly Park.

Robert Powell, a well-respected and widely known family business that has been established for some 30 years has joined forces with Bowkett Briggs, a more recently formed boutique style estate agency that has grown rapidly and gained an enviable reputation in the marketplace.  The company behind this new venture will continue to operate under the Robert Powell brand and will be based at their existing offices at Church Road in Edgbaston.  

James Powell and James Bowkett both have extensive knowledge of the housing market. Between them over the last 15 years they have handled some 85 per cent of the sales of all properties over £1 million around Edgbaston, highlighting their unrivalled local experience.

Having qualified as a Chartered Surveyor, James Powell worked with his father in the business for ten years prior to completing a management buyout of the company.  He is the third generation of his family to sell homes in the south Birmingham area.  His grandfather was senior partner at Cheshire Gibson, as was his father before he set up the Robert Powell agency in the mid 1980’s.

James Bowkett began his career with Andrew Grant in Worcester some 23 years ago.  He subsequently spent 11 years working in the Birmingham office of International estate agency firm, Knight Frank LLP before setting up Bowkett Briggs.

The merger supports plans to provide local home owners with an exceptional service for selling their properties in what is a thriving and aspirational area.

James Powell said; “We have recorded a twenty five per cent increase in property sales in comparison to the same period last year.  The quality of schools, medical facilities and world class leisure facilities, along with the attractive, leafy roads and character homes makes the area highly desirable and we predict that initiatives, such as HS2, will create further opportunities as well as continued growth in this marketplace.

Despite grabbing headlines for selling the area’s most valuable homes the agents are keen to represent property sales at all levels.

As James Bowkett explained; “We are marketing homes of varying sizes and price levels and it is important for us to apply the same attention to detail and utilise the same high quality marketing material and techniques for all of our properties irrespective of price.  Our aim is to build further on this part of our service; exploiting the most up to date digital and online technology whilst not turning our backs on the more traditional and trusted personal approach to estate agency.  With a proportion of potential buyers looking to move from outside the area, modern marketing techniques allow us to showcase our properties all over the world, but it is our intimate knowledge of local schools, leisure facilities and other amenities that can prove invaluable to these buyers.”
