Carib Grill

The recently opened Carib Grill is a ray of sunshine on St Marys Row in Moseley and it’s hard to miss the bright ‘Chilli’ red, double-fronted restaurant. The 100-cover Caribbean Grill restaurant is spread over three floors with the same colourful theme running through the interior which is also decked out in Jamaican flags and imagery. This is owner Clyde and family’s temple to Jerk! Clyde has developed a family Jerk recipe that is at once both unique and authentic.

Many of you may have tried the Jerk seasonings and marinades readily available in the shops but here it’s the real deal. Jerk is a spicy marinade using spices and herbs blended with scotch bonnet peppers from the Caribbean. This concoction creates the unique Carib blend to flavour the meat and fish. Their special method of marinating the meat enables the flavours to enter the centre of the meat which is then perfectly cooked in a super-cooker that keeps the chicken moist and succulent with a golden coloured finish. The chicken is then finished in the Flamed Grill to seal the flavours in. The menu offers starters of chicken wings, chicken ‘Lollipops’ with dips, Jerk shrimps, salted Cod ‘Bajan’ fish cakes and a Combo of all the above and more for sharing. Sides include salads, corn on the cob, rice and peas, ratatouille and baked plantain wheels. The main event is a choice from the grill -- enjoy a quarter, half or whole flame grilled Jerk chicken, chicken breast burgers and peppered steaks.

Caribbean specials include Ackee and Salt fish, Curried Goat and Matagee. Non meat eaters are well served with choices of stews, risottos and Jerked veg. End your meal with a homemade dessert of Rum cake or Banana Flambee. Licensed, they have a selection of wines, traditional rum punch and Caribbean beers. Open from 6-midnight Monday to Friday and till 1am on the weekends.
